Empowering students to think innovative.
IMPACTING THE 2%
The BCYADC mission is to develop strategic partnerships and acquire shared technology and educational resources to identify, engage, educate and train high school youth who show an interest, understanding and passion for the field of Architecture and Design. BCYADC will further seek to serve African Americans and underserved Youth from Baltimore City educational programs who have yet to be exposed to basic architectural and design principles and serve as a pipeline to higher education/careers. The BCYADC will provide a pipeline of success, starting from high school, matriculating to college (Junior Architect) and culminating in (Architect in Training) professional training and apprentice activities required to become certified as Architects in the State of Maryland. BCYADC seeks to change the tragic 0.2 registered Black Architects/youth one at a time.
Students will engage in two projects over the course of 24 weeks. The course will focus on introductory to basic AutoCAD and REVIT skills. The goal of this course is for students to become familiar with the basic AutoCAD/REVIT commands and menu systems and to become proficient as day to day users of the software. Students will learn about file management; layering standards; template drawing files; drawing and modifying commands and the benefits of inserting external drawing files and referencing external drawing files.
Curriculum
The Pipeline
BCYADC is intended to enrich the pipeline to college and prepare students to enter top flight, four year architectural programs.
BCYADC will ensure that our students are properly introduced to:
the field of Architecture
the legacies built inherent to the field
the benefits of the profession
assist in building a solid foundation of math, science and technology skills required to achieve success.
Projects
Each project will be broken into four phases:
Research
Precedents
Design
Presentation.
Students will gain experience in traditional and contemporary technologies, including hand drawing, digital programs, and site documentation. Students will also gain familiarity with Morgan’s campus, as well as college life and demands, and degree and career tracks.
Conclusion
“With these principles in place, along with sound, creative and meaningful business development processes, we envision lots of work and success for the BCYADC in the near future. 2% and rising!”
